Not only more readable than A and B but I would argue it’s also easier to remember who did what a few sentences or paragraphs earlier since Alice and Bob invoke slightly less generic mental images than A and B. For example one is a woman and the other one is a man, maybe even some person or character you know.
And now that I’m thinking about it, the different gender also makes it easier to keep track of who does what because different pronouns are used (at least in English and many other languages).
I’m not up to date with the online discussion of British politics. Is Cruella Braverman a thing already or do we need to make it happen?
Smoking around kids is terrible without question and the good driver argument is of course bullshit. But she is on to something with the seat belt. Many woman have trouble even with average sized boobs. For some the seat belt slips up and crosses the throat which is not only very uncomfortable but I imagine not exactly safe. But those boobs are for looking at not for taking into account while designing safety features, amirite?
This is what, the twentieth time this year he is rumoured to be (almost) dead? I’ll take this with a packet of salt.
Yes, tourists sometimes think it would be funny. But this did not happen at the Oktoberfest in Munich. It was an Oktoberfest in a village in Saxony with about 2500 inhabitants (actually a collection of several villages). I would bet the chances of tourists being present are very close to zero.
And I think you are underestimating how much of a deeply ingrained taboo the nazi salute is for the typical German. You are right, some people can be very stupid, especially drunk. But no German who has not been in some way socilized among nazis would be stupid enough to ever casually do a nazi salute. You just don’t do it.
The only exception I might allow besides actual nazis are very stupid or drunk (or both) teenagers trying too hard to be edgy. And even then most people would find it hard to believe that they’re not at least right leaning.
Thanks! So at least there is some hope.
I don’t know. Can the lead levels in plants and meat even be high enough to be dangerous for humans?
I assumed removing the lead pipes would be enough for lead while you had to remove the microplastics from every plant and animal you want to eat. But I realise I may be completely wrong.
Not trying to be combative, but genuinely curious: What ways are there to remove microplastics from organisms?
That’s true. I meant we stopped actively using them when building new houses. Though now that I think about it, even that is maybe not true everywhere. But at least it’s something you could change once you identify the problem. Microplastics have permeated everything, they can be found in the depths of the Mariana Trench. There is no getting rid of them (as far as we know).
Many, many future generation’s leaded gasoline aswell. You’re welcome, future generations! We thought, we’d add a little something to the mix to take your mind of the climate disaster.
Remember those stupid people in the past, drinking lead-poisoned water? At least we could just stop using lead in pipes when we found out it’s bad for us. Good luck finding anything to ingest without microplastics.
I don’t really know why you are trying to start a discussion with me because I never argued against any of that. You are right, we could be a lot farther if we had done a lot of things earlier. And it sucks that we aren’t. All of that doesn’t change that the comment I replied to was factually wrong. We could have replaced gas (or coal*) with electricity by using electricity based heating. We did not replace nuclear power with gas.
Edit: * I wrote coal, I meant oil.
I just called out this particular piece of misinformation. Being of the opinion that Germany shut down nuclear power plant prematurely doesn’t make it okay to spread misinformation, does it?
Yes, it could and increasingly is. But that still doesn’t make it true that the nuclear power was replaced by gas.
Except that never happened. Gas is mostly used for heating in Germany, not for electricity like nuclear power. I don’t know where this rumour started (probably somewhere on reddit) but it’s just not true.
Edit: Just to be clear, I’m not saying that relying so much on Russian gas was a good move or that we couldn’t (and shouldn’t) have done a lot more to move away from coal. But that particular argument is misinformation.
But are you gonna return something for this method??? You said you’d return an integer, yet there is no return statement!
