If this penalty sticks, Apple could be looking for a new suitor. Something has to be the default search provider in Safari and other Apple products.
Does something really have to replace it? Why not a menu of options? Make the user choose something. If they choose Google, great! If they choose DDG, fantastic! Whatever it is, make it a choice.
Honestly I find it quite useful, and I’m glad they found a way to do it with increased privacy. I will only use duck.ai if I want to use an AI tool.
But I can understand some people wanting it off entirely so hats off to DDG for keeping that as a core feature.
Is it really though? To the common person, it is most important thinking about the intent rather than what the word literally means. Like what people think of as AI may really just be a LLM, or VR may really be AR, or the like.

The problem is any oil and gas extraction. They all produce water that needs disposal, so anywhere you’re pulling oil out of the ground this is gonna be a problem (unless you’re in the middle of the ocean I guess).
Technically it’s from water disposal, not fracking. Still oilfield, but it’s not the fracking that causes it.

No, it’s from disposal of the water that’s produced alongside the oil. When you inject water into deep formations, it causes earthquakes.

Yeah I’m in the US and those “free” phone contracts over 3 years are objectively terrible deals when you look at the total cost of $100–120/mo or more with the “free” phone on one of the big three vs buying it outright and paying $25/mo (ish) with an MVNO.
Even if you assume a total cost of $100 at Verizon with the “free” phone—which I believe is a super low estimate—and you assume $45 at Visible (shameless referral plug)—which is their most expensive tier—you’re coming out at $1980 less in contracts over 3 years which could buy you (virtually) any phone you want and then some.
