In his final address to the UN General Assembly as the U.S. president on Tuesday, Biden boasted about working for peace and deescalation through his administration, walking through historic conflicts that he claimed he opposed.

He struck an almost anti-war tone as he bragged about withdrawing troops from Afghanistan and, ironically, opposing South African apartheid in his younger years. He also spoke extensively about the U.S.’s use of the UN charter to support Ukraine and the need for global powers to end Russia’s invasion. He then called for world order, saying that “the center has held” and that global chaos has been averted, referencing a famous William Butler Yeats poem.

But Biden suspended his dovish talk when he spoke about the Middle East and Israel’s massacres — for which the U.S. has undermined humanitarian standards at every turn. While Biden dubiously claimed that his administration is working steadfastly to achieve peace in the Middle East, he invoked the October 7 attack led by Hamas forces — which officials have raised repeatedly in the past year to provide justification for Israel’s genocide.

He is and he’s been saying it for half a century…

But to truly believe Israel is the good guys working towards peace in 2024 is completely illogical and in direct opposition to every piece of intelligence that isn’t coming from Israel.

And he does seem to truly believe it, I don’t think he’s just lying to everyone. It’s no different than an elderly relative going hard trump, he’s being taken advantage of by a foreign government.

It’s not an excuse, and it’s definitely not a reason to let him keep doing this shit, but it’s important to understand why people do horrible shit like support a genocide.

Just write him off as a horrible monster and it’s hard to prevent it from happening again. That’s a big part of why we’re still fighting fascists all over the planet. It’s not enough to say they’re monsters, we need to understand the why so we can stop it from happening again

Are you still using his age as an excuse? He doesn’t care about Palestine enough to break relations with Israel. That’s it.

There’s a lot that the US gain by not going against Israel, mostly their intelligence and technology.

Israel has the biggest intelligence network in the Middle East.

Also the biggest companies that fund Democrats either have a company division is Israel or support companies in Israel.

If Biden was 45, he would still make the same decisions.

I wonder actually if we’re overstating the influence Biden is having. Think of all the recent gaffe’s he’s made. I suspect policy is in the hands of the appointed cabinet members. In which case, having Blinken on may have done a lot of unnecessary damage…
