It did, you just did not accept the answer. Installing apps is just installing apps, regardless of its source. That’s it. Sideloading, just like jaywalking, makes it sound like you are doing something dangerous, something forbidden, something you should not do. The whole locking down of operating systems is to take control away from the user.
It has a definition already, which is the same it always has been. And no, you don’t need to differentiate this. We’ve always installed applications from outside sources. Hell, until recently there weren’t even official app stores and shit. Locked down operating systems where you only get what the tech giant wants you to get is a very recent development in order to take control away from the user.
Because it isn’t real. You aren’t “sideloading”. You’re simply installing apps. You’re not doing anything different, other than using a source that the big company does not like.
“Sideloading” isn’t a thing. That’s a term to shame and discredit people and apps installed outside of the official stores. Just like people got shamed by “jaywalking” for merely crossing the street. Both of those things were, are, and always should be the norm.

That’s literally not what happened. lol And what could they do? Maybe ban the trolls? One of them even had a freaking Gadaffi avatar. Hiding your shameful display of a community is also incredibly bad behavior and what ultimately was the final nail in the coffin for my decision to move away from EOS.
Punishing the person seeking help while doing jack shit to the people insulting & trolling while hiding the whole thing so others can’t see is certainly not how I want to see the moderation job to be done. But if you want to circlejerk with toxic trolls, then go right ahead.

They were at least still able to write in other places. And given that experience I of course did not follow up with another thread, just to experience the same thing.

It lists a bunch of inconsequential things when it comes to the distro. The worst were the pamac DDOSing incidents. The SSL certificates of their websites I really don’t give a damn about but people then keep saying “yeah but if they are sloppy there then…”, without being able to provide examples where the distro was ever affected by it. They also keep arguing about the packaging on the AUR potentially being newer than the ones in Manjaro and thus potentially causing breakage, which is a weak argument - especially with how sloppily a lot of AUR packages are maintained. And if you’re super paranoid, just update the AUR when Manjaro updates.
Overall, hating on it feels like it became more of a meme with little substance, fueled by the general entitlement and elitism within the Linux community regarding their favorite distros.

RX 6650 XT. And no, all RDNA 2 cards support ROCm. I literally had it running on my previous distro. Was a pain to install with all its dependencies and building the tools properly, since you often had to specify the model, but it was doable. On Bazzite it just seems impossible for me.
Until you reach the part where you want to partition and encrypt your drives.
Garbage distro with a garbage community.
Manjaro worked without issues for me for about 2 years, unlike EOS which broke within less than half a year and their forum is the most unhelpful and toxic clown show I’ve ever seen as they just insulted me to the point where the admins closed the thread and said I should make a new one if I still need help - hiding it in the process so it won’t get indexed and shine a bad light on them. So I find the Manjaro hate very unwarranted and it seems to get way more hate than it deserves. Most of it is just a bunch of “what if” scenarios that never happened.
Huh? ROCm is not working for me at all so far. I’ve tried to get it to work with Koboldcpp (which I have to build in a distrobox for it to even run, but then it only runs in software / cpu mode), tried LM Studio (which is easy to install, but again, no ROCm / gpu support detected), and I tried Krita’s diffusion implementation (again, only cpu working). This and the fact that I can’t get Mullvad to run are my biggest pet peeves so far.
Ironically, I decided to try it, despite my already existing skepticism beforehand, because TimeShift managed to break my post update broken system even further to the point where I couldn’t figure out if it is even salvageable (definitely not for me though). I can’t go back to Windows but I also still have not really found a good distro for me yet.
The Boys, Fallout, Vox Machina, Invincible? Although most aren’t directly produced by Amazon itself. The Expanse if we want to count the hosting and the fact that it still got cancelled.
