No, we miss abortions in this neighborhood, brother.

Not like coffee. Your average person simply can’t consume coffee beyond the average at any meaningful rate. We both know that internet usage can go from close to nothing to 100TB of data depending on the user.
Internet isn’t like coffee, it’s not that simple.
That simply isn’t true, the costs are small and arguably negligible but they do have increased costs on more data usage.
ISPs have real costs too
I completely disagree that it is a decent metaphor. Unlike coffee, internet data usage is entirely nebulous to mostly everyone outside of the tech sphere. The metaphor serves as a way of misrepresenting a widespread ignorance for a fundamental understanding.
If we wanted a decent metaphor we’d have to compare data usage to something like health insurance. Well you see, you pay for your rate of coverage at these visits per year but also have to pay your deductible that might or might not be used off routine…
In the end if we want to simplify internet expense it is this: ISPs charge way more than they need to and search for ways to charge more to maximize profits without improving service.
Never ask a company to pick between the right thing and profit. It was all a matter of time till Google needed to stop growing and start producing profit for investors.
To make it worse the Pixel 9 starts at $800 just like iPhone. So if you’re buying Android you don’t really save money over an iPhone like you used to.
Kinda. It might be 3rd parties using it but it is 100% an API designed by Google to keep apps on Google Play.
I got news for you about almost every ISP
Tbf you’re paying for the college to provide you internet.
As long as it’s just a fine, it’s just the cost of doing business. Start putting executives in jail.
I wish I could be as pleased with it. I don’t want to pay for a service and have that service still collect data on me to push ads elsewhere.
This is why I think the people modding cars to be evs are so much better.
Wtf are you talking about? I never mentioned racism. lol
This is some peak capitalist realism. Never once did I say that communism was the solution, I provided no solutions at all actually, and I simply pointed out the flaws in capitalism but you know so little about economic systems to go to communism.
Can’t do any more mental gymnastics to defend capitalism so you go to fear of another system not even discussed. You and I are not immune to propaganda and if you believe in democracy then why would your workplace not be democratic? The manufacturers never would have voted to move their jobs to China during the late 20th century. The capitalists did it. Walmart was a small family business and now it’s the largest employer in the US and half of it is owned by people born into a specific family like a monarchy.
I get that you support Keynesian economics but this was before globalism and you can’t rely on a government to fight capitalism in places it doesn’t govern.
Yeah, then it can just export all of the problems to other countries and abuse the hell out of those with no power to fight back.
You seem to be trying to push a narrative that I don’t oppose as if I do. I support degrowth but your reasons are flawed.
Pumped Hydro, solar, and wind don’t really use lithium, nickel, or cobalt. Those are mostly used in NCM Liion cells that none of these use. Permanent magnets would probably be the biggest headache tbh.
Idk why we’d need silicone, we’re not making sex toys here. /s silicon is most common in sand and rocks, something there is plenty of basically everywhere.
I don’t care what you’re saying for this circular problem. I’ve literally not addressed it once because I agree with you, I just don’t agree with your reasoning.

specialist minerals needed for hydro storage and renewables
What specialist materials are we talking about? Wind, solar, and pumped hydro use primarily copper, silicon, carbon, and concrete.
Pretty sure there’s enough weapons grade plutonium to run the US for 100 years in decommissioned nuclear weapons alone.
I think 100 years is enough time to build pumped hydro storage and renewables like solar/wind.
Idk, I think the original guy has a point. Small and medium businesses generally work really well in western economies, it’s the megacorps and monopolies that fuck all the shit up
Basically all megacorps and monopolies started as small and medium businesses. And I’m not against small and medium businesses but that whoever has money owns said businesses. Capitalism is the idea that the workers don’t own the business they work at but someone who’s never worked there does. Capitalism is the driving force that makes small and medium businesses into megacorps.
I don’t know how much I can be mad at the mentally impaired for voting against their own interest. Like, I can be mad about it but really I’m just frustrated how the system encourages their exploitation.
It’s really just systemic failure all the way down. The constitution is a sham and needs a full rewrite. Giving each state the same power in the senate and capping the house is beyond corrupt and feeds the general apathy.
