when you set up an instance, all will be empty. the moment an user subscribe to a community for the first time, that community will start appearing on all, for everyone to see.

for this reason all is different for every instance.

the motivation for it is resources. if a new instance would receive updates from all the communities on all the instances, it would be very much like ddos. and a small instance will not be able to endure it.

you don’t need to be surprised, in their ToS is written pretty big that anything you write to chatGPT will be used to train it.

nothing you write in that chat is private.

i have a firestick with jellyfin, it has some ads on the menu but i watch stuff from my own server so no ads there.

it should support most encodings and most of the stuff is in direct stream. this means you could run jellyfin on a raspberry pi and would work.

if people do cross posts, will i see the post only once?

will lemmy detect that i can see the original + 3 crossposts and show me only the original?

this is more like a feature request, i don’t think we are there yet.

we could also aggregate and sync comments across cross postings, so that the post is really just one, but posted in more than one community.
