They’re over a decade too late and now advertisers are just viewed as “the enemy”

Talk loud and confidently enough and that’s the bar for most unfortunately.
TikTok, Instagram and similar are great examples of this, initially you think wow cool I’m seeing all of these new things and getting so much info. Then you see someone come up on a topic you know something about and the facade breaks when all they do is spew misinformation that attracts a crowd (usually via fear).

Docker image layering and nightlies for the heavier installs has worked pretty well for me. Dependencies from things like npm, composer etc are all build time still but more of the base stuff is on a weekly build cycle. We just do notifications if the nightlies fail to manually resolve it which is very very seldom

You're about to see a lot more ads on your home screenEnglish8·1 year agoMe after getting those dumbass Canary cameras that cost $200 a piece then they completely wrecked the free tier then started giving them away for free to get more subscribers.
Wyze cams with wz_mini_hacks firmware offline in a VLAN with Frigate and Home assistant from here on out!

I went back to a physical doorbell button with home assistants sky connect dongle linked up to a motion sensor at the door just so I know when someone’s there but would love to get a camera up there that isn’t some ring bs
radau@lemmy.dbzer0.comto Technology@lemmy.world•Wyze security camera owners reported that they could briefly see feeds from cameras they didn’t ownEnglish8·2 years agoThese cameras work very well with the wz_mini_hacks firmware completely cut off from the internet. I’m using frigate and home assistant for notifying and it’s honestly way better than the wyze app ever was.
I’m running frigate on a Lenovo m900 with the coral USB accelerator and my CPU usage is super low so you could probably get away with the Pi4!

Forums are still around but it’s usually just the older established ones (I’m on stangnet.com and corral.net regularly but they’re car related so lots of technical info). Everything new either went Reddit or Discord it feels like and I’ll never install Discord.
I think Jellyfin started a forum post reddit but I haven’t gone looking yet for that one.
Information is absolutely getting harder to find online and if archive.org goes down we’re really screwed
radau@lemmy.dbzer0.comto Free and Open Source Software@beehaw.org•Little list of custom and alternative Android ROMsEnglish1·2 years agoI’m on the 5A now and my wife has a 7, her 7 has the screen randomly freak out where you can’t even turn it on or reset (holding power will make it vibrate after about a second preventing the hold to reset). Just have to mess with it until you can get in and hit restart then it’s fine for another week or two usually.
The 5A is fantastic until it abruptly dies which has happened to me twice now (both times while sitting with it in my hand). If they didn’t have screen and motherboard issues I would absolutely run this phone into the ground since it’s a great experience with GrapheneOS, has a headphones jack, and has the rear facing fingerprint sensor.
I can’t speak to the 6 but I know some people didn’t like them after the 5 since it switched to tensor
I made the mistake of buying a 14tb external drive there that I needed that day and couldn’t afford to wait since I had a drive failing. Little did I know they dropped their return policy to 15 days but even bringing it back on day 8 after the drive burned up from overheating from copying 14tb of shit they rejected it and said that it was “all scratched up” because it has the crappy piano black finish you can scratch with your nail.
Got it replaced through the manufacturer and pretty much opted to never go back to a best buy after that. Used to be one of my favorite stores but all the anti consumer bullshit is driving it into the ground. Made a minor issue way more pain than it ever needed to be
