In his speech declaring victory in the U.S. presidential election on Nov. 6, Donald Trump made no mention of Ukraine yet alluded to just how consequential his second term in office will likely be for the country ravaged by Russia’s invasion.

. . .

How does Trump plan to stop Russia’s war against Ukraine?

That’s the million-dollar question that is undoubtedly being discussed in capitals worldwide, not least in Kyiv and Moscow.

He doesn’t. He’s going to pull back and let Russia do their genocide thing. It’s why he blocked Ukraine aid before this started, too.

Same for Gaza, and probably Taiwan as well.

“Sure, I knew that voting for Trump meant more and worse genocides including on American soil, but I expected it from him. Seeing a genocide under Kamala Harris’s tenure as not-president made me worry she wouldn’t actually help once she became president. And then I’d be disappointed. Why would I want to possibly be disappointed when I can instead experience horrors that meet expectations?”

      - Probably a couple million people who shot their foot with their own cut-off nose as ammunition

Never mattered to the Democrats either. No matter who has been in power America’s geopolitical ambitions are all that mattered. To Trump, he is the only thing that matters.

While this is true, with the US, their geopolitical ambitions have sometimes aligned with positive developments (Germany, Japan, the Baltic nations and Poland in relatively more recent times). The same cannot be said for say Russia or China.

How so? Russia doesn’t really have global ambitions anymore, but China is invested in seeing a larger global middle class and a weaker Western neocolonial hold over Africa. This can and has lead to positive developments.

Huh? Okay you’ll need to provide some evidence if you’re saying it’s anything as neocolonial as what France is doing to these countries.

China’s engagment in Africa is just as neocolonial as Western engagement if not more

                  How so?

China is building infrastructure, creating jobs and giving African nations the tools they need to develop thus creating wealth. What does China get out of it? Markets - a place to sell the products the make. That is quite a bit different from the western policy of enriching despots, plundering mineral wealth and leaving the countries to fester and rot.

Trump’s vision is so myopic that he can’t see beyond his own nose. Same for is ability to care. If the US reneges on promises made as detailed in the Budapest Memorandum what chance will they have in other such promises. Countries are watching. This is doubly ironic as Trump keeps talking about nuclear war.

We will almost certainly see more bad news in context of global democracy and rise authoritarianism/plutocracy. Unfortunately, it seems that the US is entering a permanent oligarch-fueled “bread and circuses” phase (Big Macs and iPhones for the modern equivalent?).

Damn, that already feels like a million years ago. You didn’t have to be a news junkie like me to see that quote and know that Trump lost the only debate the coward showed up to. Literally unfit to lead. Yet people just said “don’t care, want boot!” and voted him in anyway. So embarrassed for my stupid country…

I don’t even think it’s that deep. Same thing happened in 2016. “I know how to end the war in the middle east, i know more than the secret service.”

And americans shake their fat fists, “yeah, i know more than the secret service too, and i know how to end the middle east conflict. We have so much in common”

It’s definitely at least that deep. Russia didn’t go into overdrive trying to elect him because they think he’s going to be tougher on them than Biden.

well, he could cut off the supplies that are being sent to this pointless conflict and send em to Bibi. This solves both problems by removing both Ukraine and Palestine from the world as problems. A master plan that takes no real thought

I’m sure he has a peace plan.

The plan is for Putin to take a big peace of Europe and call it Russian territory.
